Roses are generally heat tolerant, but extreme heat can stress newly planted roses. To help them thrive:
-
Water deeply and consistently – Roses need plenty of water during hot weather, especially when newly planted.
-
Provide temporary shade – For young plants, using shade cloth, cardboard, or another barrier can help protect them from intense afternoon sun.
-
Monitor soil moisture – Avoid letting the soil dry out completely, but ensure good drainage to prevent root rot.
In our greenhouses, temperatures can reach 125°F on a hot summer afternoon, and our roses still thrive as long as they have enough water. With proper care, your roses can handle the heat, too!
